NO APOLOGIES: Adele doesn’t look great despite being big – it’s an essential part of it.

Adele is a phenomenon. The double Grammy-winning singer has matched music sales records previously held by Madonna and the Beatles. Her second album debuted at No 1 in the US charts and hit the same spot in 17 other countries. She’s made the best cover version of a Bob Dylan track. And she’s only 22.

So what else is interesting about this British-born pop singer? Let me see. She has lovely auburn hair. She has a beautiful, pouty mouth. She has skin like a porcelain doll. She works a liquid eyeliner even better than Amy Winehouse.

Dior Chairman and Chief Executive Sidney Toledano said the company was studying possible replacements and the brand’s creative development had not been interrupted.

PALE PEACH-PINK CONFECTION: A 1940s trousseau nightgown for sale at Saturday’s annual Methodist Social Services heritage linen sale.

It started life as about two yards of pale peach-pink crepe de chine, a delicate length of romantic cloudy-sheer sheen. It finished as a trousseau nightgown, floor length, with every stitch of work in it painstakingly set by hand.

Glenys Groucott, vintage clothing expert for Palmerston North’s Methodist Social Services’ annual heritage linen and clothing sale, points out the narrow bias-cut bands finishing the V-neck edge and forming the gathered-in hems of the short puffed sleeves.

CATWALK LOOK: City Chic fashion show for size 14 plus models during this month’s L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.

The L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival is all about glamour, but unlike most red- carpet fashion events, this one isn’t just for the style police.

A front-row seat at a festival show costs A$95 (about NZ$130) and tickets are available to anyone willing to pay for them.

The festival, now in its 15th year, may be for the people, but it’s still taken seriously. The celebrities are in attendance, wearing their sponsored frocks and smiling for the cameras, and the shows are extremely polished.
